1907 RENAULT 20/30 "Roi des Belges" Tourer

Right hand drive

History:

This large and powerful Edwardian Tourer has been described as a 'Gallic Silver Ghost' partly because  the body is very similar to those more often seen on the early 40/50 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost chassis. But also for the quality of the engineering that reflects Renault's fine reputation during this period.  It has a large 4 cylinder engine, close to 5 litres with an unusual 4 speed gearbox with a sequential change.

The history file illustrates a fine provenance including being part of the renowned Sword collection at one stage. There is also a photo copy of the 1907 Renault UK sales ledger showing the first owner as Mr Nesbit. There is a green continuation log book and considerable correspondence and old photographs.

For the last 22 years is has been very well maintained in a private collection where it has been gently modified for more practical use. The main feature being the addition of an electric starter. It has also been fitted with easily demountable modern driving lights and indicators. Though the superb acetylene generator and Bleriot headlights are still adorn the car along with lashings more brass fittings. The car featured in the television drama 'Mr Selfridge'.

The car drives very well indeed. It has tremendous torque and surprisingly light and positive steering. The gear change is a lot easier than most cars of this period. All in all a real thrill to drive.
